PLAE with Orthotics, AFOs and SMOs

What makes plae shoes good for kids’ feet?

The unique design and engineering of PLAE shoes and tabs (straps) means that they are flexible and adaptable enough to allow for many types of orthotics and AFOs. Our most popular style for an orthotic fit is the Ty sneakers with mesh thanks to their flexible material, but many other styles work, too, thanks to:

  • Wider shoe opening and toe box allows for easy access
  • Removable insoles
  • Fashionable interchangeable tabs (Velcro® straps) in a choice of lengths* for a custom fit
  • Cool choice of styles
Orthotic-ready styles
Stretchy, airy uppers, higher ankle support and a wide tongue opening make many PLAE styles ideal for youngsters with high insteps. Our unique styles also accommodate ankle-foot orthotics. Here’s why:
  • Wide tongue opening means most orthotic or AFO devices are easy to apply
  • Construction of heel means greater stability through the rear of the foot
  • Flat structure accommodates heel height increases promoted by AFOs and orthotic devices
  • TIP: Choose XL tabs and remove insoles for best orthotic fit
